House and Senate Ongoing… Posted by kneacomm | Mar 22, 2016 | Advocacy & Action, House, Senate KNEA’s legislative advocacy team is currently monitoring ongoing debates under the dome. We will post a detailed update on activity as early as possible tomorrow. Currently, the House is still in session as anti-standards zealots are trying to revive a bill that would eliminate anything tied to Common Core standards such as AP, IB, ACT, SAT, and other programs. **THIS JUST IN** Common Core repeal fails 78-44. The Senate dealt with giving the legislature more power to impeach Justices who might not rule as the majority would like. Also, a new school funding bill was offered in both houses to deal with the Supreme Court ruling on equity. Finally, the Senate is debating a bill trying to limit or eliminate local taxing authority. All of these bills have HUGE ramifications for all Kansans. Stay connected, and watch for a detailed update tomorrow.
